In this special edition of Citizen Suggests we highlight one single film. Fittingly so, it is one of the greatest films ever made. Made in 1927 by the renowned director Fritz Lang it still packs one hell of a punch today. The epic story mixed with the cinematography, special effects, production design, costuming and overall grand scale still keeps you glued to the screen. It truly is a timeless masterpiece.
This edition, titled The Complete Metropolis, is more than just a re-release. The film has been restored with 25 minutes of lost footage. Old Hollywood folklore always proclaimed there was another version of Metropolis out there but no one could ever substantiate it until 2008 when packed away in a closet in Argentina someone found a pristine 16mm dupe negative of the original version.
It’s not just new footage either; finding the original version allowed the film to be re-edited to the standard that Fritz Lang intended for the film.
Your ears will be happy too as this version has the full original score by Gottfried Huppertz.
You can read all about the restoration of the film and find plenty of other information over at the official Kino International website. The Complete Metropolis is now available on DVD and BlueRay.
You can watch a trailer for film below.
You can bet that this film will be shown in it’s full glory on the big screen at The Citizen Theater!
It’s official! The Citizen Theater is now the proud owner of 1455 W. Magnolia Ave. Right now it’s just a big empty lot between Fairmount and 7th Ave but we’ve got some amazing plans for it. Our design team is working diligently on the layout and pretty soon we’ll be able to post some conceptual drawings of our beautiful twin-screen theater. We couldn’t be happier to be in the neighborhood that we already live and work in. It’s the perfect spot.
Citizen Suggests
To give everyone a taste of what’s to come, we’ve started a weeklyish blog post called “Citizen Suggests“. This is a new feature we’re doing as a service to all the film lovers out there in Fort Worth awaiting the opening of The Citizen.
Each week (or a couple of times a month) we’ll put together a list of great films coming out for home viewing. Either on DVD, Blue-Ray, Video on Demand (VOD), or via the Internet. These films represent some of the wonderful programming we plan to bring you when The Citizen Theater opens. Just imagine, instead of watching these at home on your TV or computer you could have seen them on the big screen with the best picture and sound available projected from 35mm!
To stay up-to-date on Citizen Suggests and all Citizen news please like us on the Facebook. And tell your friends! The more the merrier.
Invest
We’re happy to say we’ve had tremendous success finding individual lenders to fund The Citizen. Thank you so much to everyone involved so far. And to everyone out there who has thought about it but hasn’t done it yet, now is the time. We’ve only got a few more months before construction starts and we need to round up everyone who is interested. You have the possibility to make a 150% return on your investment. It’s good for your pocketbook and will help us make this thing happen as fast as possible. If you are interested please e-mail us now for more info.
This week we have an enthralling Southern Gothic indie with a star-making performance, a trilogy that defined geekdom in the 80′s, and an epic film in under 3 minutes!

Each week (or a couple of times a month) Amy and I will put together a list of great films coming out for home viewing. Either on DVD, Blue-Ray, Video on Demand (VOD), or via the Internet. Just imagine, instead of watching these at home on your TV or computer you could have seen them on the big screen with the best picture and sound available!
In todays edition we have a brand new Criterion release from one of our all time favorite directors Terrance Malick, a superbly made indie film starring Hal Holbrook, and one of the most epic short films we’ve ever seen. Get the whole story »
We love the Near Southside. We live here. The restaurant we started is here. Our best friends in the world are here.
Magnolia Ave is a lovely street full of unchained restaurants, bars and other businesses. It’s ripe with potential to become a beautiful, walkable, urban playground.
Therefore we’re putting our stakes down on Magnolia Ave.
You’ll notice on the empty land at the corner of Fairmount and Magnolia there is a new sign up. It says “Future Home of The Citizen Theater.”
Last month we purchased that piece of land to bring Fort Worth and our favorite neighborhood a world class cinema.
So that’s exactly what we’re doing with the help of our team: Architect Joe Self, Interior Designer Kara Keith, and Cinema Consultant Jack Panzeca.
We’re currently in the design and permitting phase and are set to start construction next year. We are accepting individual investors. Investments will receive an 8 – 10% yearly return depending on the amount lent. If you are interested in investing please email Amy.

We have some exciting news. We’ve thought a lot about where we want The Citizen to be. Prevoiusly we were trying to renovate an older buidling but through this process we’ve realized that we really want to be close to Spiral and be part of the neighborhood that has already been so good to us. Our new plan is to purchase an empty lot right on Maganolia Ave, really close to Spiral. This will put us right in the middle of everything. Best of all we will be able to design the building exactly how we want and up to LEED standards. It’s very exciting.
This location is not set in stone yet but we wanted to let everyone know what we are working on. We really want this to happen and we are currently taking all the steps we need to make sure this lot will work for the space we want to build.
If any of you guys are interested in investing in The Citizen, now is the time. It’s a really good investment (10% annual return) and it will help us bring FW the art-house theater it so desperatly needs. If you have previously e-mailed us about investing and didn’t hear back, please check your junk box and/or e-mail us again. We’ve replied to everyone, some e-mails just aren’t making it to inboxes.
We will keep sending out updates to let everyone know how our progress is going.
Thanks to everyone for being so supportive and excitied. Please tell your friends about The Citizen.
It’s in the works ya’ll. Amy and James are working furiously to finalize the location and get things moving along.
Our design team consists of Joe and Tracy Self of Firm 817 and Kara Keith of The Usual fame. We also have Jack Panzeca and his good folks at Universal Cinema Services to help us along the way.
We have already raised a portion of our budget but we still have a ways to go before we can start construction. For anyone who wants to put his or her money directly into the community, please consider investing with The Citizen. Any money lent will receive a 10% return for up to 5 years. This is how we funded both Spiral Diners and we love to see our money go right back into the community instead of back to a big bank.
Everyone involved with The Citizen lives and works in Southside Ft Worth. We love this city and want to give it the theater it deserves.
Throughout the construction process we will strive to meet and exceed LEED standards. This would make The Citizen one of a handful of LEED certified movie theaters in the country.
