Now that it’s officially a new year we thought we’d tell y’all what our favorites were from last year.

Of course there were tons of films that we didn’t get to see that very well could have made this list.

In alphabetical order here are our top 12 movies of 2010:

127 Hours

Dogtooth – If we had to pick one single movie as our favorite it would have to be this astounding piece of cinema from Greece.  It’s a very artful and formidable human study.  If you can see it please do!  You’ll definitely have your chance to witness it on the big screen when The Citizen opens.

Enter The Void – Another one of our top favorites.  It’s a masterful work of cinema blending technical virtuosity with a raw human study.

Exit Through the Gift Shop

The Fighter

Fish Tank – A searing character study with an explosive performance by newcomer Katie Jarvis.

Inception

Kick-Ass

Marwencol – A sublime documentary.  The creative and emotional journey of the main subject is perfectly enthralling.

Tree of Life: Trailer – We know it’s just a trailer but have you seen it, in the cinema, on a big screen?  It’s mind blowing.

True Grit

Winter’s Bone

Great list. Dogtooth was far and beyond the best release last year, The Fighter was pretty good too though. Where’s Somehwere?

  • Citizen says:

Thanks Frank! We haven’t had the chance to see “Somewhere” yet. We’re both fan’s of Sofia and fully expect to like this one too.

I agree with Fish Tank; I’ve been waiting to see it since I saw an article about it acouple years ago in Total Film magazine and I wasn’t let down by it. It was phenomenal. And Tree of Life is going to be another Terrance Malick masterpiece.

I’ve seen the films you put at the bottom of the list. True Grit, Winter’s Bone, Kick Ass and Inception. I’ve haven’t seen Dogtooth yet. The trailer for it makes the film look like an extended set of performance art. There’s some online critics, that I respect, that absolutely adore it. I’m looking forward to seeing it on your big screen. Exit Through the Gift Shop, at the time I’m writing this, can be seen in its entirety on Hulu.
